Anxious to return to the game he so desperately loved, Babe Ruth jumped at the chance to become first base coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1938 season. However, when his nemesis Leo Durocher won the managerial vacancy following the campaign, Ruth returned to permanent retirement. Still a fan favorite, Ruth (d.1948) etched the offered 7x9 photograph to a youthful supporter. The clean black-and-white image pictures Ruth hitting with a fungo bat during pre-game warm-ups. The strong blue steel-tip fountain pen script reads To my little friend Kenneth Shanabrough Sincerely Babe Ruth. The autograph registers a resounding (9-10) and comes with a full photo LOA from JSA.
