A college star at the University of Illinois as the 1925 NFL season kicked off, legendary halfback Red Grange was signed by Chicago Bears owner George Halas in mid-November and immediately became the team’s marquee player. Grange’s instant popularity is evidenced on this December 8, 1925 program issued at Griffith Stadium for an exhibition between the Bears and Washington All Stars. The 12-page guide lists the visitors on the front cover as “Red Grange And His Chicago Bears.” Covers/pages are intact and scoring grids are unmarked. More on our website.
This scarce survivor presents nicely and has a period newspaper clipping adhered to the front cover. The Bears defeated their independent foes that day, 17-3. The effort, however, proved costly as the team had a regularly scheduled NFL game in Providence, Rhode Island the following afternoon and lost, 9-6.
