Description

In one fell swoop, this 1925 New York Yankees payroll check encompasses (3) integral components of the “Murderers Row” dynasty that to this day serves as the benchmark form dominant teams. Made out to spitballer Urban Shocker, the crisp document is endorsed on the reverse by Shocker (d.1928) in black-ink fountain pen (“9” strength). Having authored a stellar 18-6 mark for the 1927 World Champions, Shocker died from pneumonia less than a year later. Executed in black-ink fountain pen on the obverse, the scriptings of both Ed Barrow (d.1953) and Jacob Ruppert (d.1939) both project (“9-10”) strength. The item has normal cancelation stampings and hole punchings, with the latter minimally affecting Shocker’s bold penning. Full photo LOA from JSA.
