Description

Edgar Rice Burroughs “Tarzan” has endured for a century to become one of the World’s most recognizable literary characters. Presented is a complete run of the (26) original stories written by ERB including (7) 1st editions and 1st edition movie book from 1957. Also included are (6) 1940s later editions published by Burroughs Inc., (11) 1920s-1950s later editions published by Grosset & Dunlap, a 1950s Whitman edition and a 1930s Methuen edition. This adventurous collection presents in mid to better grade with all but one accompanied by a dust jacket. More on our website.

This lot consists of (28) total books including a (2) copies of the story “Tarzan and the Forbidden City”, one is a 1950s Whitman edition and the other is a G&D 1940s edition.

The Tarzan and the Tarzan Twins volume is a 1st edition published in 1963 and contains two previously published stories which are “The Tarzan Twins” and “Tarzan and the Tarzan Twins with Jad-Bal-Ja the Golden Lion”. Originally published respectively in 1927 and 1936, this edition is considered a first as it is the first time these two tales were published in the same book.

The “Tarzan and the Lost Safari” volume is a tie-in for the 1957 film of the same name. This first edition book features the star of the movie Gordon Scott on the cover and was issued without a dust jacket.

The “Tarzan-The Lost Adventure” volume was completed by author Joe R. Lansdale from an incomplete story By ERB. This volume was published as a 1st edition in 1995 by Dark Horse and is not a limited edition version.

”The Return of Tarzan”, G&D 1930s red cover edition with illustrations, sturdy spine and cover with minor wear and soiling on the ends, clean cream pages, dust jacket is in above average condition with bits of paper missing at top and bottom of spine and top right corner, includes plastic cover and paper liner

”The Beasts of Tarzan”, Methuen 17th edition, handsome blue cover and spine with light wear on the ends and corners, clean off-white pages with moderate foxing on pages closest to front and back, light pencil mark inside front cover, dust jacket shows some original gloss and is marginally affected by several small edge tears

”The Son of Tarzan”, G&D 1920s red cover edition with illustrations, clean and solid cover spine with only minor wear on ends and corners, small pencil marks and small stain inside front cover, title page has corner crease, clean light-cream pages, dust jacket is in average condition with light creases and scuffs and a 1” missing section at lower left of front cover, includes plastic cover and paper liner

”Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar”, G&D 1950s edition with illustrated green cover, attractive cover and spine with light wear on ends and corners, small pencil mark inside front cover, clean off-white pages, average dust jacket with peripheral creases and missing paper at top right corner, top of spine and bottom edge

”Jungle Tales of Tarzan”, G&D 1950s edition with illustrated tan cover, attractive cover and spine with only light end and corner wear, maps inside front and back covers, name stamped on first blank page, clean white pages, bright, handsome dust jacket with bold glossy color minimally affected by a light vertical creases at the front edge and the middle of the spine section, includes plastic cover and paper liner

”Tarzan the Untamed”, G&D 1940s edition, average condition with moderately aged appearance including water stain at bottom of the spine, dark cream pages, and several significant pen marks inside the front cover, dust jacket is faded and stained with a 1” section missing at bottom of the spine

”Tarzan the Terrible”, G&D 1920s edition with full page illustrations, above average cover and spine with moderate wear, cream pages, additional documents taped inside front cover, dust jacket shows bold colors and graphics however it has several tape repairs, includes plastic cover

”Tarzan and the Golden Lion”, 1920s orange cover edition with full page movie photo between pages 178 & 179, better grade cover with minor wear on spine edges, pen marks inside front cover, masking tape inside front and back covers, dust jacket appears to be a reproduction, includes plastic cover and paper liner

”Tarzan and the Ant Men”, G&D 1940s edition with “Wartime” production not on dust jacket flap, attractive cover and spine with light edge wear, pen marks inside front cover, darkened cream pages, full wrap dust jacket with moderate edge wear and a small tear on top right corner, includes plastic cover and paper liner

”Tarzan Lord of the Jungle”, G&D 1950s edition with illustrated green cover, very attractive clean and bright cover with only minor traces of wear, maps inside front and back covers, light pencil marks on first blank page, clean white pages, excellent spine wrap dust jacket with negligible wear, includes plastic cover and paper liner

”Tarzan and the Lion Men”, Burroughs Inc. 1st edition from 1934 with full page illustrations, above average cover with beautiful graphics, small pencil mark inside front cover, cream pages, several page are missing small corner segments which do affect the text, reprint dust jacket which has been adhered to the inside of the front and back cover

”Tarzan and the Leopard Men”, Burroughs Inc. 1940s edition with tan cover and blue lettering, solid spine and cover with light water stain on bottom edge, pen mark inside front cover, clean white pages, dust jacket is missing inside front flap and has scattered paper loss along the, includes plastic cover and paper liner
