Heartbreak came to Brooklyn in 1957, while the home team played its last season at Ebbets Field. From that fateful final year, comes this Don Bessent game-used Brooklyn Dodgers jersey. Located on the front left tail, is a Spalding factory label, with an adjacent size "42" tag. Bessent's name and the year "57" are stitched into the gray flannel fabric, directly below the label, and below that, Bessent has signed his name ("7-8"), with the inscription "1957". On the inside of the left front tail, is a washing/drying instructions label, with an adjacent "Set 1 1957" tag. Overall wear is light, in keeping with Bessent's duties as a relief pitcher, who made ten road game appearances during the 1957 season. The number "46" patches on the back bear a few moth holes that are superficial in nature, and the "Dodgers" lettering on the front is noted as having been professionally restored. The accompanying LOA from Phil Wood notes that it was likely that the Dodgers also used their 1957 jerseys, in their first Spring Training as the L.A. Dodgers in 1958. Auction LOA from JSA for the autograph.
